Bold Walking Group

Last Wednesday in each month (except December -  no walk).  Walks are open to all. We usually start around 10am, with a walk of 3-4 miles before lunch in a local pub (12-2pm). After lunch the walk concludes with 2-3 miles, finishing around 3.30pm. Sometimes, we do a slightly longer walk in the morning only finishing with lunch. People who just wish to join us for lunch are also welcome.

Bold Walk – Wednesday 28 November 2018

The last Bold Walk of 2018, on 28 November, will be led by the Pooleys.

As befits a walk in late November, it’s shorter than usual (just under 5 miles)

and very local: from Milton Hill across to East Hendred, down to Steventon and back

to Milton Hill for lunch. There is some mud and a handful of stiles although, when

we scouted it, all but one stile could be bypassed. Almost all the walk is very rural

and pleasant, but not the last 600m, which is along a narrow footpath right next to a

busy A4130. Single file, dogs on leads and not much conversation there we fear.

We will meet at 09.45 for a start at 10.00 from the ‘Pack Horse’ pub car park,

on the A4130 from the A34 to Rowstock (OX13 6AG or SU 477 903). There will

plenty of car parking space there at 09.45 but please use it economically because it

will be quite busy when we get back there for lunch.

Lunch will be in the Pack Horse (OX13 6AG, phone 01235 832323) and we

expect to eat at around 13.00. They have asked for a £5 deposit with every lunch

order, which we have already paid, so can you please bring a £5 note (or £10 for two)

to give to us and make sure they knock £5 off each bill when you pay it. Please don’t

try to pay us before the walk.

The menu attached is the one they expect to be in use for lunch by the end of

the month, though it isn’t currently on their website. We understand that ‘Hoagies’

approximate to sandwiches and we found their starters were enough for a light lunch.

As usual, we will need to have your choices by Sunday 25 November.

They will probably seat our group in their ‘Functions Room’, but they don’t

allow dogs in there. If you bring a dog you will have to choose whether to leave it in

your car over lunch, or eat in the bar, where dogs are welcome, but away from the

main group.

Please let us know if you intend to walk and/or eat and let us have your choice

of food, preferably by email to derek_pooley@talk21.com, or by phone to 01235

559454. Our mobile on the day will be 07802 252498. Derek and Jenny

No walks in December but there is a Christian Aid Walk on 1st January each year.
