Bold Walking Group

Walks are open to all. We usually start around 10am, with a walk of 3-4 miles before lunch in a local pub (12-2pm). After lunch the walk concludes with 2-3 miles, finishing around 3.30pm. Sometimes, we do a slightly longer walk in the morning only finishing with lunch. People who just wish to join us for lunch are also welcome.

26 September Paul & Val Dalby

This month’s walk is a morning walk mostly in Wytham Woods and starts from the car park of The White Hart  (OX2 8QA) in Wytham village  at 10.am. The Wytham turn is just after the Botley flyover on the A34 going North and you follow the road round to the right  As you come through Wytham you need to take the left hand turn just past the pub. (Unfortunately the pub won’t be open that early so no toilets!)

The walk is 5 miles with no styles and mostly on firm paths and tracks. There is a fairly long incline just before the coffee stop - but there would be opportunities to sit on a seat and admire the views if needed half way up– and of course there will be a slope down near to the end!

We have a permit to walk in the woods and have permission to bring a party round but if you should  have a permit please bring that also.

There are several opportunities to shorten the walk by about ¾ mile

You could park at the Botley Lodge where the walkers should arrive at about 10.20ish. To get to the Botley Lodge, as you come off the A34 just past the Botley Flyover  you need to turn left almost immediately and you will see the sign pointing to Botley Lodge after about 200 yards  -on your left just before you reach the one way sign. If you miss this you will have to go back on the A34 and try again!  We are happy to give anyone a lift back to that car park after lunch. Towards the end of the walk we can again cut off about ¾ mile by walking down through the field   instead of along the track past the Swiss Chalet. We will have one car at the top carpark if anyone needs a lift down to the pub. In the afternoon the church is usually open if you wanted a very short walk – about  100 yards each way.

Please note that dogs are strictly not allowed in any part of the woods..

The menu is available on request. Please let us know if you are walking or  lunching by Sunday 23rd   – also if you intend to  meet us at The Botley Lodge car park.
